Cheryl's Background
I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Occupational Therapy in 1997. I have also participated in the Child Development
and Assessment Team Training at the Center of Human Development and Disability at the University
of Washington. I have practiced occupational therapy in a variety of settings (acute care,
inpatient rehabilitation, and pediatrics). Most of my experience is working with special needs
children in school districts. As an occupational therapist in the schools I work with kids to
help increase their overall functional performance and independence by remediating physical
deficits and adapting environments and/or activities.
When I had my first child in September
of 2000, I learned how to massage my baby through a class and the
use of a video and a book. I fell in love with infant massage so
much, that I decided I wanted to share this with others. I participated
in the infant massage instructor program and become a certified
infant massage instructor through The Foundation
of Healthy Family Living. I now teach individual,
group and introductory infant massage classes. I use my experience
as a parent and occupational therapist to augment my instruction
in infant massage and communication. I truly believe in this type
of work as it has made an incredible impact in my relationship with
my own son and in the relationships of the families
that I have worked with. It is a blessing to be able to work
with parents and children in such a rewarding way.
